Suzuki History

The Suzuki Company started off life as a privately owned Loom works. The Suzuki loom works re-organized into Suzuki Loom manufacturing Co., making its goal to build better, user friendly weaving looms. Micho Suzuki is elected president.

In 1952 Suzuki started to create motor vehicles. It created its first motor bicycle called the “Power Free”. This featured a 36cc two-stroke engine with double sprocket gear system that enabled the rider to pedal with the engine assisting, pedal without the engine assisting, or disconnect the pedals and run the engine.

Suzuki’s first mass produced car, the Suzulight was a technical marvel. It included radical innovations for the time such as front-wheel drive, four wheel suspension, and rack-and-pinion steering.

Suzuki’s motorcycle line up that was released in 1963 also became popular. The line up gave riders new levels of value and reliability. This line made them become a major player in the motorcycle market.

By 1983 Suzuki took the lead in the all-terrain vehicle market by introducing the first four wheels ATV, the QuadRunner LT125.

Suzuki introduced the industry’s first sour-stroke electric fuel-injected outboard motors in 40, 50, 60 and 70 horsepower classes. By 2000 Suzuki became the “Fastest Growing Japanese Auto Company In America” reported by the Automotive News.
