The Rover 200 Series was originally a four-door sedan, based on the Honda Ballade, but in second (R8) and third (R3) generation forms, it was available in three- or five-door hatchback forms, as well as other niche versions. These sported the Civic-derived 1.3 L 12-valve engine, or BL's own S-Series in 1.6 L format, the resulting cars being badged as either The Rover 213 or The Rover 216.
The original 400 Series., launched as a four-door saloon in, was simply a saloon version of the 200 Series hatchback, and like the 200 it was based on the Honda Concerto. It used the same bodywork and mechanicals, and had the same styling characteristics inside and out.
The Rover 600 Series. is a large family car, on the outside it was basically a reworked Honda Accord, and the 1.8, 2.0 and 2.3-litre straight-4 petrol engines were all provided by Honda; however, the 2.0-litre turbodiesel and the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine were developed by Rover. The 600's interior included wood and chrome trim as well as relatively high equipment levels, although rear legroom was criticised as rather constrained. The interior is derived from the Japanese-built Honda Ascot Innova, the only difference being the added passenger airbag on some models. Carpet was also not evident along the bottom trim of the dashboard. Then the 620ti was launched with a turbocharged, intercooled, 16-valve, twin-cam 2.0-litre engine, a top speed of 143 mph and a 0-60 mph time of 7 seconds, thanks to 197 bhp and 174 ft·lbf torque. Rover 600 production ceased after six years, it was replaced by the retro-styled Rover 75, which also replaced the larger 800 Series.
The Rover 800 series is an executive car, The first 2.5 L engine lacked torque, which affected its driveability, whilst the 4-cylinder cars suffered from reliability problems. It should be noted that the 2.5 L Honda V6 is a completely different engine from the Rover KV6 Engine, although the two share the same 2.5 L capacity and V6 architecture.
